COMMUNITY
Storage and Community Parking

As part of the development we built a new storage facility for use by The Allotment Association and the parish council.
We also built improved off-street parking facilities for both local residents and visitors to the park.
It was important for us to have the support and co-operation of Westbourne Allotment Association who are positioned immediately to the east of the housing site and Westbourne Parish Council. In recognition of the disruption that the scheme would have during construction, particularly on the Allotment Association, it was agreed that the project should include a small storage unit.
This storage unit is positioned inside the allotment site close to the entrance from the proposed new car park. The unit also provides storage for the Parish Council who made financial contributions to the cost of the scheme.
The housing development is partly located on a pre-existing car park for the use of those visiting the park or the adjoining allotments. So, in addition to providing sufficient new parking space for the proposed housing the existing parking space for the allotments and the park users had to be replaced.
A major issue for residents during the community consultation and for the technical assessment of the proposals by planning and highways officers was the lack of parking available for local residents in Mill Road and the high levels of congestion and unauthorised parking on the highway verges.
To resolve the traffic problems in Mill Road and to improve access to the proposed development site in the park we provided new off-street parking spaces for existing residents.
Facilities Delivered:
- Storage facility
- Off-street parking
- Congestion eased
